The Menace of Nonexistence

Lock text: We need Heart or knowledge of the Histories to suppress this curse. Otherwise, it will not keep us from our goal, but it will trouble us later.
Start text: Are you here? Really? Are you sure? Because this place never was, you know. Perhaps you are not too? Heart might reassure you of your continuance. Or perhaps an understanding of the Histories might strengthen your mind.

Expeditions

  • A Battlefield, a Failure
  • A Possible Camp
  • A Stitch of Time
  • A Royal Tomb
  • The Egyptian Port

Requirements

  • Heart (Invokes the Bully's Stick)
  • Secret Histories (Invokes the Aged Bones)

Heart Invocation

We call upon the Bully's Stick

  • Heart 10: We call upon the Brass-Beater, who persists through everything. Perhaps we do not exist. That has never mattered to the power we call upon, so why should it matter to us? We will pass regardless.
  • Heart 5: We call upon the Brass-Beater, who is dynamic. The power we call upon can fit through the walls of the Mansus, and the Mansus has no walls. We will probably pass through this curse.
  • Heart 1: We call upon the Brass-Beater, who is raucous. If we are loud enough, and leave enough traces of our passing, we can prove our existence. It might work. Get the rocks.
  • Heart Success: The curse is beaten. Curses cannot typically be hit. But this is a strange place, and the rules of the world do not wholly apply to it. Sometimes, a large rock is the best cursebreaker there is.
  • Heart Failure: The curse clings! There will be a reckoning, eventually. For now, let us put it out of our minds.

Secret Histories Invocation

We call upon the Aged Bones

  • Secret Histories 10: We call upon the Throne-Eternal, who never forgets. This place existed. We exist. This curse does not exist, never has existed, and never will. We will pass.
  • Secret Histories 5: We call upon the Throne-Eternal, who crafts order. This is a place in need of order. Perhaps the power of the Throne-Eternal will provide it, and make it safe to pass.
  • Secret Histories 1: We call upon the Throne-Eternal, who weaves the Histories. This place is a lost thread in the tapestry. Calling upon her might fix it, and allow us to pass.
  • Secret Histories Success: The curse fades. Each event is a thread, and each History a piece of the tapestry. This thread has been severed, or returned to its proper place.
  • Secret Histories Failure: The curse clings! How many of us were there? Who was sent on this expedition? Who survived? We will either remember or forget, eventually.

Impact of the Curse
