History

The once mighty kingdom of the god-king, the Architeuthian, who was known in life as Adonibaal. Under his rule, the kingdom prospered and expanded, and he participated in the conquest of many lands, adding them to his glorious empire. An esteemed warrior-king, Adonibaal earned the love of his subjects, and loved them in turn. He preached a doctrine of strength and endurance, of enduring and outlasting threats and struggles. In an ideal world, these tenets would be followed and Bayal would prosper far into the future. (RP Canon) But even the King diverged from them in time, believing that all Bayali were worthy, simply because they were of his Kingdom.

This land and kingdom were not only blessed by the King that would become the Architeuthian, the gaze and influence of other Hours was upon them. The Apple-of-the-Eye, the Star, and the Ferryman took a benevolent interest in the History. Under their influence, the History enjoyed the benefits of fair rulers that governed justly, inspired scholars, and an unrivaled abundance of wealth. But no ancient empire was as great as Bayal while Adonibaal led it. He ruled his country brilliantly and fairly, crushing any enemies who came against them. He loved his people with all his heart, and they loved him forever.

But no king rules forever. With peace and prosperity come the freedom to discover and explore sensations. These things drew the Butterfly Hatching to the Second History the Butterfly grew infatuated with Adonibaal, and sought to take this mortal for her own. She whispered to the king in his dreams, promising him eternal power and glory. All he needed to do was sail east into the Sun, and from there she would give him the power to conquer the Mansus and rule forever as a god.

The king was seduced by her whispers and took his fleet and most trusted soldiers out to sea, knowing he'd never see Bayal again in this life, but determined to bring his loving rule to the entire world, as he planned to make it all into his kingdom. Once he reached the place his dreams had led him to, he found not divinity, but a trap. The Butterfly's wing beats stirred up a legendary storm, one she released into the Histories at that moment, capsizing and drowning the entire fleet so she could take their souls for herself.

And while many Bayali held the memory of his departure in their memories, the belief that their King was dead began to settle over them. After a long time of mourning, the kingdom resumed, under the rule of inheritors Adonibaal himself had selected.

Tales of Bayal

A selection of stories and tales of Bayal, taken from RPs and Interludes. While these could be considered Mod Canon, as they are flashbacks, I feel they flesh out and fit in well with Wiki Canon.

From the short story "The Duty of a King":
“No matter what would happen next, what falsehoods and impersonators may come, this was the truth of Bayal. A king, both willing and unwilling to leave, come to comfort his people, and was comforted by his people in turn. The citizens would pass on this memory, even after their king departed, to their children and their children's children. Even when the corruption of history took place, all who heard it would never forget the truth of their nation and of their king.”
“Even as his kingdom was defiled by his enemies, even as memories of him were twisted and tainted, he would never forget, and never would his people.”
“for Adonibaal had appointed wise and worthy leaders as his successors, and they helped to usher in a golden age for Bayal, with many advances well ahead of their time. But like anything good, it was not to last. The leaders began to grow lazy and indolent, forgetting the tenets of their beloved king and the means by which he came to rule. That only the strong may survive, that a place at the top must be earned through victory, and maintained through compassion. They disregarded their duties as rulers, caring only for their own luxuries and disregarding the needs of the less fortunate.”
